Afghan asylum seeker needs legal representation

Help an Afghan asylum seeker stay safely in the US

Posted March 9, 2022

Work & Deliverables

Our group is in contact with a recently arrived Afghan family who was inadvertently evacuated to Mexico during the fall of Kabul. IRC supported them for one month only and then told them they were on their own. The family traveled to the Mexico/US border and paid someone to take them across where they surrendered to US Border Patrol. They were turned over to ICE and released on their own recognizance and are now in Buffalo, NY. They are being resettled with New Paltz for Refugees (www.newpaltz4refugees.org) in New Paltz, NY and need to begin their asylum case.

Project Plan

Preparation Phase

  • Please have previous asylum legal experience.
  • Meet with family and representative from Afghan Refugee Housing Network.

Collaboration Phase

  • Everything to get the family's asylum case approved.

Wrap Up

  • We will be eternally grateful!
